Iglesia Ntra. Sra. de las Maravillas (Maro)

The Church of Maro, Ntra. Sra. de las Maravillas, was built at some point towards the end of the 17th century. This church suffered a serious fire that destroyed it, and thanks to the Marqués de solar (Lord of Maro) it was restored. This religious site consists of a single nave

The Church of Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas is the main church in the village of Maro and one of its most charming spots. Built in the late 17th century, it forms part of the historical heritage of this small locality belonging to Nerja and bears witness to its long religious tradition.

Of simple, vernacular architecture, it has a single nave covered with a timber roof structure and a small square tower topped by a pyramidal spire. After suffering a serious fire, it was restored thanks to the efforts of the Marqués de Maro, preserving that humble and authentic feel that characterises the churches of rural settlements in the Axarquía.

Its setting is one of its great attractions, as it stands next to a square with a magnificent viewpoint over the sea, very close to the old sugar factory. Visiting the Church of las Maravillas means discovering the peaceful, historical essence of the village of Maro.
