Trail description

Fuente del Esparto is a natural spring nestled in the heart of the Maro-Cerro Gordo nature reserve, close to Nerja. This hiking trail is one of the most popular in the area, offering a varied route through typical Mediterranean mountain scenery.

The path sets off from the Nerja Caves car park and climbs gradually along well-marked trails through pine trees, holm oaks and Mediterranean scrubland. The vegetation shifts as you gain altitude, showcasing an interesting variety of local flora along the way.

The spring itself is a natural water source surrounded by lush vegetation, which for centuries has served as a vital supply point for shepherds and walkers alike. The surroundings make it a perfect spot to rest and recharge before heading back.

Throughout the walk you'll enjoy panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, the coastline of Nerja and Maro, and the mountains of the Sierra Almijara. In spring, wild flowers add a spectacular burst of colour to the landscape.
