Maro Beach — One of Spain's Best Beaches
Crystal-clear turquoise water, dramatic cliff scenery and a wild, unspoilt feel — Playa de Maro is regularly rated among the finest beaches in Spain.
Maro Beach (Playa de Maro) is one of the natural jewels of the Nerja coastline, regularly appearing in "best beaches in Spain" lists — and with good reason. Set beneath the village of Maro and flanked by the dramatic Maro-Cerro Gordo cliffs, this small beach combines crystal-clear turquoise water with a wild, unspoilt character that larger resort beaches simply cannot match.
What Makes It Special
The setting is what sets Maro apart: towering cliffs draped in subtropical vegetation frame the cove on both sides, and the water clarity is exceptional — perfect for snorkelling among the rocky outcrops. At the eastern end, a natural arch and small caves add to the sense of adventure.
Getting There & Parking
From the N-340, follow signs to Playa de Maro. A steep, narrow road leads to a small pay car park (fills very early in summer — arrive by 9 am in July/August). From the car park, a path and steps lead down to the beach (about 5 minutes, partly steep). An alternative is to walk from Maro village.
Facilities
- A small chiringuito serves drinks and simple food in season.
- No sunbed hire — bring your own shade.
- No lifeguard — take care with currents near the rocks.
