When a Nerja local recommends somewhere to eat, it is worth listening. Taberna de Pepe is exactly the kind of place that locals go to without telling anyone, and when you discover it you understand perfectly why the tables fill up every day.

The kitchen focuses on time-honoured produce, done well. The grilled fish stands out in particular: dorada, sole and some fish skewers that arrive at the table in generous portions. The dishes come with side items included in the price, which means three dishes between five people are more than enough to leave satisfied.

The venue is small and has that atmosphere of an authentic tavern that is now increasingly hard to find. The service is attentive and the house wine more than does the job. That said, it is advisable to book in advance, especially in high season, because places fill up quickly and it is not a good idea to be left without a table.
