Maroween in Maro
Maroween is Maro’s Halloween celebration: a night of terror, chestnuts, sweet potatoes, macabre fancy dress and live music in the village streets.
Maroween is the Halloween celebration in the style of Maro, the district of Nerja. Every 31 October, the small village turns into a terrifying setting to celebrate the Chestnut and Sweet Potato Festival with a macabre touch and lots of fun.
Autumn gastronomy
The culinary star is roasted chestnuts and sweet potatoes, seasonal products that are handed out in the streets. It is a Mediterranean tradition that in Maro blends with Halloween aesthetics in a very original way.
Fancy dress and atmosphere
The residents of Maro dress up in the most creative and macabre costumes, and the village streets are decorated with cobwebs, skulls and pumpkins. It is a night to have a good time with family or friends, with live music and street performances.
A different kind of festival
Maroween is not your usual Halloween: it is a celebration that mixes Andalusian autumn traditions with Anglo-Saxon imagery, creating something unique that is well worth a visit.
