Choto Day in Maro
Maro devotes a day to its most traditional dish, choto (kid goat) cooked the Maro way by local people, with music and proceeds for charity. First edition: 22 November 2025.
The Día del Choto Mareño is a food festival in Maro devoted to the village’s most traditional dish, choto a la mareña: kid goat cooked to recipes handed down from generation to generation.
The first edition
It was held for the first time on Saturday 22 November 2025 in the car park below Plaza de las Maravillas. Fifteen Maro residents cooked the choto, each with their own touch, and the dishes were sold for charity: the proceeds went to the local branch of the Spanish Cancer Association (AECC), which also ran the bar. There was live music, with Eduardo “El Campanero” and local groups.
Organisers
It is organised by Nerja Town Council (tourism and traditions departments), Maro’s local mayor’s office and AECC Nerja. The date of the next edition has not yet been announced.
