Navachica Route
Trail description
The Navachica route is one of several trails that begin at Fuente del Esparto, heading deep into the Sierra Almijara along paths that were once used to haul materials from the area's old mines.
Navachica Peak is an imposing mountain that offers one of the most rewarding ascents in the Nerja area. The route follows historic mining tracks, adding a cultural dimension to what is already a compelling sporting and scenic challenge.
The terrain is varied: the lower sections wind through Mediterranean scrubland, while the higher stretches become increasingly rugged and rocky. As you gain altitude, the views open up to reveal spectacular panoramas of the coastline, the surrounding sierras, and on clear days, the African coast across the water.
The route demands a good level of fitness due to the steep gradients on several sections and the overall elevation gained. It is recommended for hikers with previous mountain experience.
